Easy Smitten Apple Crisp

4 Smitten apples, thinly sliced (4 cups)
½ cup packed brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup quick-cooking oats
1/3 cup butter, softened
¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¾ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Heat oven to 375°F. Butter an 8 x 8-inch square baking dish.
Spread Smitten apples in a baking dish. In a medium bowl, stir the remaining ingredients until well mixed. Sprinkle over apples.
Bake until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender about 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 – 10 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
