Smitten apple harvest underway in Washington

 

Smitten apples are coming off the trees in Washington, with this season marking the first good-sized crop of the variety from the state.

Honey Bear Tree Fruit Co., Wenatchee, Wash., which markets Smitten in the U.S., was expecting about 200,000 boxes of its newest variety.

Don Zornes, marketing director, said Sept. 8 the company is packing and shipping its first Smitten apples of the season, loading out of Columbia Fruit Packers in East Wenatchee.
